Ghanaian actor and politician, Mr. John Setor Dumelo, has declared his intention to run for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency MP seat for the second time. In a Facebook post on Sunday, February 26, 2023, Dumelo said that he had extensively consulted with God, his family, and party members before deciding to run again. He wrote, "After an extensive consultation with my God, my family, and our party faithful in Ayawaso West Wuogon! This’s the second coming."
Dumelo, who ran on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 election, has expressed confidence in winning the seat this time around, promising to work tirelessly to improve the lives of the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon if elected. Mr. John Dumelo's track record of philanthropic activities in the constituency, such as providing scholarships for needy students and supporting small businesses, is evidence of his commitment to the welfare of the people.

Dumelo's decision to run again has been welcomed by many of his supporters in the constituency, who believe that he has what it takes to represent them effectively in parliament. Some of his supporters have taken to social media to express their excitement about his announcement, with many describing him as a charismatic and hardworking leader.
However, the incumbent, Honorable Lydia Alhassan, is also expected to put up a strong fight to retain her seat. She has been actively engaging with her constituents since she assumed office in 2019, and she has implemented several development projects in the constituency. Her supporters have also expressed confidence in her ability to win the seat again, citing her track record of delivering on her promises.

Before John Dumelo can contest in the 2024 general elections, he must first win the NDC primaries. The primaries will be highly contested, with several other aspirants vying for the party's ticket. Dumelo is not new to the NDC primaries, having won the party's primaries in 2020 to contest for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency MP seat.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency has traditionally been a stronghold of the NPP, but Dumelo's popularity and influence in the area could change the political landscape. As the campaign season heats up, it remains to be seen if Dumelo will be able to win the NDC primaries and secure the party's ticket to contest for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency MP seat in the 2024 general elections. Nevertheless, Dumelo's popularity and message have resonated with the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon, and he has become a force to be reckoned with in Ghanaian politics.

Background:
The Ayawaso West constituency is one of the most hotly contested seats in Ghanaian politics. Located in the Greater Accra Region, it has become a battleground for the two major political parties in Ghana, The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Ayawaso West constituency has a rich history of political contests, with both the NDC and NPP having won the seat in previous elections. In the 2016 general elections, the NPP won the seat with a significant margin, with their candidate, Honorable Emmanuel Agyarko, receiving over 60% of the votes. However, the NPP's victory was short-lived, as Hon. Agyarko passed away in November 2018, triggering a by-election. The by-election, which was held in January 2019, was won by the NPP's Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who defeated the NDC's Delali Kwasi Brempong. The by-election was marred by violence, with some supporters of the NDC alleging that there were irregularities in the voting process.
In the 2020 general elections, the NPP's Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan faced a stiff challenge from the NDC's Mr. John Dumelo, a popular Ghanaian actor and politician. Dumelo's candidacy generated a lot of excitement and interest among Ghanaians, with many predicting that he could win the seat. However, Hon. Alhassan won the election, albeit by a narrow margin, with only 2,073 votes separating her from Dumelo. Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan polled 39,851 votes, while John Dumelo received 37,778 votes. The independent candidate garnered 108 votes, while the People's National Convention (PNC) got 160 votes. A total of 77,604 votes were valid, with 595 rejected.
The people of Ayawaso West have shown resilience and determination in ensuring that their voices are heard through the ballot box. The constituency remains an important political battleground in Ghana, and it will be interesting to see how the next elections play out.
