The University of Ghana Management has granted a one-week extension of academic registration following a plea from the Student Representative Council (SRC) executives and the leadership of the SRC General Assembly.

The initial deadline for academic registration was the 10th of February 2023. More so, the University's Academic Affairs Directorate, in a letter signed by Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah (Mrs.), issued a notice confirming that academic registration had come to an end. This announcement left some students stranded, especially those who could not pay their school fees and register for their courses on time due to financial constraints.

The SRC executives and leaders of the SRC General Assembly were concerned about the affected students' academic progress and as a result wrote letters to the University management, requesting an extension of the academic registration deadline. After a successful meeting between the leaders of the SRC General assembly and Professor Gordon A. Awandare, Pro-Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic and Students Affairs, the University's management granted a one-week extension of academic registration.

It is important to note that, the University's Pro-Vice Chancellor specified that the extension will take effect after supplementary re-sit registration has come to an end on 24th February 2023. This decision will provide students who were unable to register for their courses due to outstanding fees a second chance to complete their registration.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, speaking during the meeting with the SRC General assembly, emphasized the University's commitment to providing a conducive environment for students to learn and achieve their academic goals. He acknowledged the challenges that some students face in paying their fees on time and assured them that the University would work with the SRC and other bodies to provide financial support through the University's Students Financial Aid.

The one-week extension of academic registration granted by the University of Ghana's management is a welcome development for students who faced financial constraints and were unable to register for their courses by the initial deadline. The University's management has encouraged students to take advantage of the extension and complete their registration to avoid deferring their courses. The University's commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and supporting students in their academic pursuits is commendable.
