In Accra on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launched the historic National Rental Assistance Scheme ( NRAS).
Designed by the NPP Government, the National Rental Assistance Scheme is a multimillion support package purposed to ease the financial difficulties millions of Ghanaians go through to pay their rent. The Scheme will be initially implemented in Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western, Eastern, and Bono East Regions of Ghana where rental accommodation challenges are very prevailing.
The National Rental Assistance Scheme is a public-private partnership under the auspices of the Ministry of Works and Housing. The private company that will collaborate with the Government to ensure smooth implementation of the Scheme is Rent Masters Ghana Ltd, a Ghanaian company that has years of experience in doing business of such kind. The public-private partnership will among others ensure that the right procedures are followed to guarantee value for money and the continuity of the Scheme.

The Vice President said, " It is clear that there is a lot of youth who when they finish school, just trying to rent accommodation is a big problem. But someone who has finished school and just started a job does not have the savings to pay all these huge demands. This is why Government has decided to come in and bridge this market failure by setting up a National Rental Assistance Scheme"
Dr. Bawumia in his speech added that Government is convinced that the scheme will bridge the information and financial gap between tenants and landlords.
The NRAS comes as a joy of daybreak to millions of Ghanaians as it will end the long-suffering of their rental accommodation challenges. Ghanaians have applauded the NPP Government for honoring its 2020 manifesto promise and are hopeful that the scheme will be efficiently and effectively implemented to ensure that citizens are relieved of rental accommodation burdens and make renting in Ghana accessible for all.
